Soil Erosion by Water: Contemporary Research Methods and Their Use
نویسندگان
چکیده
According to a UN Environment Programme survey, topsoil is eroding faster than it forms on about one third of the world’s cropland, causing an estimated 85 % of the world s land degradation from human activities. Erosion of soil, mainly by water, is also a problem in the Czech Republic where 54 % of arable land is endangered by water erosion. The topic of this article is to describe contemporary research methods evaluating soil erosion by water. One of methods is the modeling of soil erosion by water divided to three main groups as empirical, conceptual and physically based models. In the Czech Republic the revised USLE (The Universal Soil Loss Equation) model is used to calculate of potential soil erosion. In our research we are concentrating to evaluation of soil erosion by water using USLE plots which are usually applied as the method for taking experimental data for predicting and evaluating soil erosion.

Soil productivity decline caused by inappropriate land use and human factors is the main threat to the functioning of soil resources and ecosystems in different regions of Iran, especially in Kermanshah Province. This research was designed to evaluate the effectiveness almond cultivation with a surface and subsurface harvesting system in improving soil permeability and inhibition of soil erosio...

This paper examines local soil knowledge and management in the Manupali watershed in the Philippines. The study focuses on soil erosion and its control. Research methods used in the study include ethnosemantic elicitations on soils and focus group discussions. In addition, in-depth work was conducted with 48 farmers holding 154 parcels at different elevations/locations in the watershed. The on-...

Undoubtedly, land degradation linked to desertification causes a decrease in qualitative and quantitative features of natural resources. This research aimed to assess land desertification by local residents and their role in controlling desertification in Isfahan province, Iran in 2016. The criteria were soil climate, vegetation, erosion, and demography. The indicators of soil texture, stone fr...
متن کاملComparing Efficiency of Hill Slope Erosion Model (HEM) in Dry and Abandoned Land (Case Study: Khosbijan Research Center, Arak
Soil erosion and sediment yield from watersheds confine sustainable use of land resources and is supposed as one of the most critical environmental issues. Prediction of storm wise soil erosion and sediment yield is very important, especially in arid and semiarid regions due to small number of events and high intensity of rainfall. Evaluation of soil erosion by existing models is needed as an i...
متن کاملThe Effect of Land use and Soil Erosion on Soil Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Stock
Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a principal component in soil quality assessment. Knowledge of SOC and total nitrogen (TN) stocks are important keys to understand the role of SOC in the global carbon cycle and, as a result, in the mitigation of global greenhouse effects. SOC and TN stocks are functions of the SOC concentration and the bulk density of the soil that are prone to changes, influe...
